Sports activities

In Marseille, sport isn’t just about fitness or performance. It’s a real way of feeling alive, of unwinding, of meeting new people, and of feeling part of the city. 71% of young people regularly do sport, and you surely have a sport you like or would like to try out!

Those who are from Marseille might have grown up going to sports grounds, local football clubs, and outdoor basketball courts, or swimming in l’Estaque. If you’re new to the city, sport can really help you to create connections, find your place, and get to know people in a relaxed way.

You’ll be glad to know that you can stay active without going over your budget. Places like FSGT 13 offer a variety of classes – yoga, dance, boxing, gymnastics, gentle strength training – in different areas of the city at affordable prices, or sometimes for free. These classes are accessible and welcoming, and there’s always a good atmosphere.

You can also try out ASPTT Marseille, a multi-sport club offering a variety of guided activities in a friendly atmosphere. Whatever your level, you can take it easy and go at your own pace. There’s also MUST (Marseille United Sport pour Tous·tes), an inclusive sports association.

Feeling like some fresh air? Luckily, you’re living in a city surrounded by the sea and nature! The calanques are perfect for hikes, brisk walks or even trail running if you like a challenge. If you feel like climbing, you can do it outdoors in Luminy for example, or at one of the climbing centres located around the city, such as Altissimo or Arkose.

Do you prefer to do sport alone, or freestyle? You can go running along the corniche, cycling in the parks such as Borely or Longchamp, or try out skateboarding at one of the city’s skateparks: the Bowl of Marseille at Prado is legendary.

If you have the Pass’Sport, you can make use of it to lower the costs when you sign up to a club or association. You won’t need a big budget to get started!

It’s easy to get moving in Marseille, and it’s above all a way to get out of the house and get some fresh air, build routines, and take care of yourself. Whether you do sport occasionally or you’re addicted to adrenaline, there are always pitches, waves, trails or a tatami mat waiting for you.
