Rooted in pagan summer solstice traditions, these festivities blend religious reverence with street parties, music, food, and communal joy.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Pagan Roots<\/strong>: Originally tied to pre-Christian solstice rituals celebrating fertility and harvest, later Christianized to honor the saints.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><br><\/strong><strong>Lisbon (Santo Ant\u00f3nio)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the whole month of June, Lisbon as a vibrant atmosphere. Music, food and dance in every corner.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The <\/strong>Peak festivities on <strong>June 12\u201313<\/strong> (St. Anthony\u2019s Eve\/Day) where Lisbon doesn\u2019t stop. Starting from the early morning until the next morning, Lisbon is actually full of people all around the city!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What to know:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Marchas Populares<\/strong>: A dazzling parade on Avenida da Liberdade, where neighborhoods compete with themed costumes and dances.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Casamentos de Santo Ant\u00f3nio<\/strong>: 16 couples wed in a mass ceremony at S\u00e9 Cathedral, sponsored by the city.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Street Parties (<\/strong><strong><em>Arraiais<\/em><\/strong><strong>)<\/strong>: Alfama, Bairro Alto, and Mouraria come alive with grilled sardines, <em>pimba<\/em> music, and dancing until dawn\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Pimba music: <\/strong>it\u2019s the typical music. You will have the opportunity to listen to that!\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Arraiais (Street Festivals)&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Lisbon, especially during the \u201cF\u00e9stas de Santo Antonio\u201d, you will encounter a lot of &#8220;arraiais&#8221;, street festivals that take place in various neighborhoods. These small festivals are often in honor of saints or local traditions, featuring music, dancing, food stalls, and outdoor celebrations.
