The 8th district of Marseille

The 8th district (le huitième arrondissement) is one of the greenest and most elegant parts of Marseille. Located in the south of the city, between the centre and the calanques, it attracts families looking for calm as well as students wanting to live near the Luminy campus.

The main areas of the 8th district

Prado

Borély Park is a green oasis, appealing to families and people coming to exercise or walk. Nearby, you’ll find the Prado beaches, which are very popular in the summer. They’re good places to relax or do water sports.

Luminy: a student area in the middle of nature

At the very south of the city, Luminy is a calm area just next to the Calanques National Park. It’s home to one of the main university campuses of Marseille, with scientific faculties, art and design schools, and research institutes. Luminy is a great choice for students who like calm, nature, and hiking, whilst remaining connected to university life.

Why choose the 8th district?

  • An exceptional natural environment, with beaches, parks, and hills.
  • Accessible for students at the Luminy campus, with regular bus links.
  • A bright and sunny, typically Mediterranean living environment.
  • Beaches that can be reached by foot or on bike, to make the most of living by the sea.
