Festivals
In Marseille, festivals are an important part of the cultural calendar. All year round, the city buzzes with music, cinema, and all kinds of festivities. 61% of young people attend at least one festival every year, and it’s easy to see why!
If you only attend one festival, make it Marsatac, an unmissable electro and hip-hop festival. You can dance all night long, listen to great live music, and meet people from far and wide. The atmosphere is always wild and electric.
For a more eclectic and festive experience, head for Fiesta des Suds. There’s world music, a radiant atmosphere, food trucks, lights, dancing and good vibes, all set against a backdrop of converted docks and old warehouses.
How about a more low-key but just as cool festival? Ciné Plein Air organises free open-air film screenings in various neighbourhoods. So grab a blanket, gather some friends, and watch a film under the stars. It’s easy, it’s free, it’s Marseille!
And that’s not all. Marseille is overflowing with all kinds of festivals. Cinema, jazz, photography, comics, urban culture… there’s something for everyone! Try FIDMarseille if you’re into documentaries, Avec le Temps for French music, or Africa Fête to discover artists from the African continent. The Jazz des Cinq Continents festival is also worth checking out, whether you’re a jazz music lover, or just curious.
Whatever the season, you’ll find an event to feast your eyes and ears on. So, get your diary out, get your crew together, and let yourself be carried along by the energy of Marseille’s festivals.
