Shopping tips

Are you part of the 55% of young people who prefer second-hand items? Welcome to Marseille, where browsing second-hand shops, swapping, and rummaging are almost a way of life. Here are some top spots for stylish and ethical finds.

Flea markets and treasure hunting

On Saturday mornings, head to the Canebière for a lively flea market in the heart of the city. It’s got everything: vintage treasures, crockery, vinyl records, clothes, home décor… making it a perfect spot for uncovering the weekend’s golden find.

Every second Sunday of the month, you can also stop by Vide Cafoutch, a jumble sale organised by locals, often in support of a cause. Everyone can donate, exchange, and buy items at low prices.

If you prefer bargain-hunting from the comfort of your sofa, you can download applications like Geev (donations between neighbours) or Leboncoin, which are great places for finding all kinds of things, often for free or at a cheap price.

Our favourite markets

  • Prado flower market – Every Friday from 7.30am to 1pm. It’s the city’s biggest flower market, with passionate growers and florists from across the region.
  • Market for stamps and old newspapers – Every Sunday morning at 67 avenue du Prado. You’ll find stamps, postcards, old coins and papers… It’s a small, calm, and charming market.
  • Michelet market – Bargain lovers will find clothes, flowers, food, and even a farmer’s market. From Monday to Saturday, there’s the food market, and on Thursdays you’ll find general goods and flowers.

Second-hand shops

  • Emmaüs Marseille Pointe-Rouge – a long-time favourite in the city. There are clothes, furniture, objects: all you need to give your apartment a makeover without blowing your budget, and in support of a good cause.
  • Emmaüs Saint-Marcel – a real treasure trove brimming with vintage furniture, retro décor, and unlikely objects.
  • Kenza – One of the best-priced second-hand clothes shops in the city. You’ll have to rummage, but you’ll be rewarded!
  • Kilo Shop & Mad Vintage – If you’re into vintage style, this is where to head. You either pay a small fee per item or by the kilo, depending on the shop.  Style is guaranteed, but prices at these shops are a bit higher than at our other suggestions.
  • Humana Vintage – A great place to get cheap clothes: they often have clearance sales and sometimes everything is priced at just 5 euros. Don’t hesitate to check it out—it’s fashion gold at bargain prices!

And make sure you have a wander around the market at La Plaine. With clothes, accessories, and good vibes, it’s a great place for local, affordable shopping.
