Henner – your insurance during the european solidarity corps
If you are doing (or have done) a volunteering project within the European Solidarity Corps (ESC), you’ve probably heard about Henner.
But… do you really know how it works?
Most of the young people who answered our questionnaire have taken part in a project funded by the European Commission.
Throughout the volunteering experience, both in your hosting country and home country, you are entitled to free complementary health insurance. Let’s explain!
📋 What is Henner?
Henner is the insurance company contracted by the European Commission to provide international complementary health insurance to ESC volunteers.
This insurance:
- Complements the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) if you have one.
- Acts as the main insurance if you do not have an EHIC or it’s not valid in your host country.
✅ What does it cover?
Henner covers:
- Medical consultations (with or without EHIC)
- Prescribed medication
- Medical and emergency dental treatment
- Lab tests and X-rays
- Emergency hospital visits
- Medical evacuation and repatriation if needed
- Psychotherapy (up to a specific limit)
- Physiotherapy (when prescribed)
⚠️ It’s always important to check the coverage table and limits per treatment type. You can find all of this in your personal Henner account.
